Welcome to our "Get in the Groove for Preschool" program.
Get in the Groove for Preschool is a preschool preparation program for 2-3 year olds to help them gain a sense of independence and confidence before they go to preschool in the following Fall.
We offer three different options depending on your child's age and readiness to separate from you or their caregiver;
- 1 hour class for almost 2 and early 2 year olds (a parent or caregiver can remain in the classroom or slowly venture out to the waiting area as the child becomes more comfortable and independent - the adult must remain in the building during the class as this is not a drop-off class). This class is designed to be a very first step in creating a sense of independence - the intention is for it to become a 2 hour drop-off class in January once the children have become more independent;
- 2 hour class for 2 to 3 year olds (in January we will offer the option to add a 3rd hour) - this class is appropriate both for children who are separating for the first time and for children who have already participated in a drop-off class; or
- 3 hour class for 2.5 to 3 year olds (this class is intended for children who are already quite comfortable with being separated from a parent or caregiver and is ideal for older two year olds who have missed the cut-off date for local pre-K 3 programs). The class for the slightly older age range is on Fridays.
The program takes place from October 2, 2017 to June 22, 2018. It takes place at Garden Street School of the Performing Arts at 1018 Washington Street, 2nd floor. The studio is a 3,000 square foot space with wonderful light and energy.
For the 1 hour class where a parent or caregiver is present but not participating in class, we have a maximum of 10 students.
The 2 hour drop-off classes have a maximum of 10 students with one lead teacher and two assistant teachers.
For the 3 hour class, we have a maximum of 5 students with 1 lead teacher and 1 assistant teacher.
Our preschool prep program reflects our passion for creativity, curiosity and each child's unique passions and interests.
We believe that it is vital for a child's natural creativity to be nurtured, encouraged and explored.
We also believe that children are naturally curious and that responding to their questions and curiosity leads to a rich learning experience.
The program incorporates music, art, dance, drama, literature, age-appropriate math and science projects. The program also includes yoga and PE. We are excited to stretch not only the children's imaginations but also their whole bodies!
Our program provides a loving and nurturing environment where our young students can start to take their first steps toward independence and gaining confidence. We work closely with each family to ease this transition for both the child and the parent. As a mother of three children, I had one child walk into her first classroom and never look back and two children who became intimately acquainted with my legs as they clung desperately to me. Having gone through this with my middle child, I found The Nest preschool for my youngest child and the loving environment they provided gradually coaxed him from my leg and we watched him gain confidence in a richly creative classroom and loving community.
Having gone through that myself, I'm committed to providing a nurturing and creative environment that will feel safe and welcoming to even the most hesitant of children.
I am so proud of this program and so very grateful to our wonderful teachers for their creativity, their wonderful energy and the loving way in which they support and encourage our students.
